I, Margaret Hawthorn, the newly appointed principal at KGIS welcome you to our school. I‘m honoured and excited to have been selected to serve you. I’m also delighted that you have decided to join us at KGIS. It is often said “It takes a community to raise a child” and I really hope to foster this by collaborating with all stakeholders to provide the best education for your child, and look forward to working with you to this end.
KGIS is a family-owned school and promotes a family atmosphere of firmness tempered with fairness. I support this family ideal and believe in a holistic education focusing on the academic, moral, physical and community aspect of each child. At KGIS, I will endeavor to provide this for every child. I support and recognize each child’s uniqueness and will be promoting differentiated teaching which means dealing with students as individuals and catering as much as is possible to all their educational needs providing stimulating lessons accommodating the Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic (VAK) learners.
With our ever changing high-tech environment, it is important to keep abreast of current pedagogical practices and here at KGIS I hope to lead the school to be at the forefront of technological practice. The staff here at KGIS embrace and model the principle of life-long learners, by adopting new technological advances into their teaching methodologies to support and improve the learning of each child. Students of all ages are nurtured into critical thinkers and independent learners with the use of various tech devices in the classroom and the home.
Health and safety of all children is paramount. I will be working closely with all stakeholders to ensure your child feels safe and protected at all times while at KGIS, to ensure your child has a happy environment in which to learn, grow and mature into the best they can be.
Now, a little bit about my educational journey: I completed my schooling in South Africa and went onto to do my tertiary education there. I taught in three different schools in South Africa over a period of fifteen years before coming to Oman in 2005. I came to Oman as the Head of Maths at Al Sahwa School where I went onto have the title of Head of Maths and Advanced Skills Teacher. In 2012 I joined KGIS when it first opened its doors, again as the Head of Maths. During the course of 2013, I became the Exams Officer and in early 2014 I was promoted to Head of Secondary where I held the position until my promotion to Principal this year.
With my educational experience spanning nearly 30 years, l feel confident I can support you and your children to be successful in their schooling and look forward to working closely with you.
